That’s a tacit admission that retailers themselves are partly to blame for one of the biggest criminal trends in recent times. M&S has installed 800 of the things with the aim of saving £150m – and it is still at it. Spell “false economy”, because it’s not just shoplifting that the damnable things are encouraging.
