Pete Van Helden will succeed Jack H. Brown as CEO of Stater Bros., the supermarket company announced Monday.
Van Helden, currently president and chief operating officer, will assume the new title next Monday.
“It adds some responsibilties… particularly in the area of public and corporate affairs,” Brown said in a phone interview. “The financial department of markets will be under his day-to-day supervision now instead of me.
“Basically it’s something I’ve planned for for a long time, he added. “I’ve been CEO for 36 years. It’s time to put those responsibilities in Pete’s hands.”
Brown will be the executive chairman of the board.
“I’m still going to be here,” he said. “But I want to let my team run with the ball.”
