Kroger locations in central Ohio are testing the use of robots to monitor inventory by scanning items on shelves. The program has already been piloted in areas like Cincinnati and Indianapolis.
The tall, rod-shaped robots run up and down aisles in the stores, casting a thin line of blue light on the produce as it passes by to keep track of what needs to be restocked.
Mark Bruce, head of communications and public affairs for central Ohio Kroger locations, said the hope is the robots will allow employees more time to interact with customers. He did not provide further information about the rollout of the machines in central Ohio.
